Nutrition Services Department

The Nutrition Services Department empowers student success by providing nutritious meals and promoting wellness to create a positive life-long relationship with food, physical activity, and mental health. Our team provides breakfast and lunch to all students in the district, student and staff wellness opportunities, and nutrition and culinary education for students in grade K-8.

Across the district we serve approximately 5,000 meals per day, providing balanced dishes that include fresh fruits and vegetables, and whole grains that meet federal requirements.

Meal Prices

The Board of Education voted to opt in to the Healthy School Meals for All program. The Healthy School Meals for All program provides state funding for Colorado public school districts to serve free, nutritious meals to all K-12 students beginning with the 2023 - 2024 school year. A la carte options will continue to be offered on a cost basis.

Meal Management Portal

LINQ Connect is a school meal management platform that allows families to manage and monitor all student meal funds in one place; make payments or set up automatic recurring payments; set low balance alerts; view live and up-to-date data; and apply for free and reduced meal eligibility. Learn More

Meal Modifications

Your student’s school will make meal modifications prescribed by a licensed physician, advanced practice nurse with prescriptive authority, or physician assistant to accommodate a disability. The American Disability Association (ADA) defines disability as “any physical or mental impairment that impacts any major life activity/activities. For instance, eating would be considered a major life activity. Religious, cultural, or dietary preferences are not considered a medical disability and accommodations may be made on a case-by-case basis.

Please note that we cannot guarantee that products used in our kitchen have been manufactured in facilities that are free from allergens as most of our manufacturers do not provide precautionary labeling as that type of precautionary or advisory labeling is voluntary. However, all manufacturers in the U.S. must follow current Good Manufacturing Practices as designated by the FDA, which help ensure food safety practices and reduce the potential of cross contamination for major allergens.

To request a meal modification, please complete this form and return it to your student’s health/nursing office. Once processed, you will be notified of when your student can begin receiving modified meals via email.

For questions contact Assistant Director Maura Benton at maura.benton@weldre4.org or 970-686-8092. Please provide your student’s first and last name, school, and grade level in your communication.

Wellness

We believe improved health optimizes student performance potential. Children who are mentally, physically, and emotionally healthy are more likely to learn in the classroom. The winning recipe for a healthy lifestyle includes a combination of both good nutrition and physical activity. Learn More
